Home grown Brisbane company combines with global powerhouse in ICT innovation
Brisbane based company BCI Technology has signed a Partnering Agreement with the globally recognised Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (Fraunhofer FOKUS) to deliver world class ICT solutions across Australia and Internationally.
In a win for Queensland, BCI Technology and Fraunhofer FOKUS have come together despite the distance, through a shared and common interest in ensuring and assuring the quality of software and software-based systems, to the highest standards.
BCI Technology was founded in 1995 and is led by a group of Queensland software and systems integration specialists, with experience in high technology industries. It is a notable partnership for a quietly achieving Queensland business that started small and has grown on the consistency of its results, now making good on the world stage.
The prestigious Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, an organization of the Fraunhofer Society, is headquartered in Berlin, Germany and is engaged in applied research and development in the field of information and communications technology. With a software and testing focus, it is larger in scale than Australia’s CSIRO. BCI is its first and sole Queensland Partner.
In order to meet anticipated client and market growth, BCI Technology identified the need to look abroad to access innovative research and development work in niche technological areas, aligned with the company’s own philosophy and proprietary methods.
BCI Technology is currently presented with significant commercial opportunities for the development of software applications and infrastructure across Government and the private sector.
The partnership will seek to address global problems regarding consistent, successful delivery of major ICT Programs and Projects, through utilisation of the best methods, technologies and toolsets.
Quotes from Christine Cornish: Director – BCI Technology Pty Ltd:
“We are delighted to be teaming with Fraunhofer to offer world leading toolsets, dashboards and testing methods, affording our clients unmatched precision and progress visibility over their ICT projects.”
“Our agreement attests to the very productive exchange we have had with Fraunhofer over recent years. We have a shared vision for a requirements first approach to building dependable software-based systems, irrespective of whether or not agile or extreme agile methods for software development are deployed, in line with a rigorous system testing regime based on building systems from their requirements.”
“We are both determined advocates for higher standards and a more disciplined, engineering-based approach to ensuring accuracy in project delivery, within prescribed tolerances for scope, cost, time, quality, risks and benefits.
We have a very high regard for the world class capabilities of the Fraunhofer Team and the innovation culture of the organisation and look forward to a very successful working partnership, that effects positive industry change both in Australia and abroad.
Realising return on investment in ICT by taming the complexity and risks inherent in ICT project delivery is our mission and our mantra.”
Quotes from Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker: Director – Fraunhofer FOKUS:
“We have been collaborating with BCI Technology for several years and are pleased to leverage our cooperation by entering this partnering agreement. Alongside confirmed IT projects, we look forward to the extensions and adoption of our engineering and testing methods and tools for delivering high-quality software in Australia and worldwide.”
Both organizations recognise the need for a more disciplined approach to ICT requirements definition, ICT project management and ICT project delivery both in Australia and Internationally.
There is a long list of ICT projects in Australia that have not met client or community expectations and there needs to be increased rigor and accountability placed on the industry.
The BCI Technology and Fraunhofer FOKUS Heads of Agreement outlines the specific technical and business terms of how the parties will work together complementing each party’s strengths and interests.
Key areas of collaboration will include research, development, pilot testing, implementation and evaluation of new ICT applications and the further automation of techniques and methods proven to ensure successful delivery outcomes for the Queensland and Australian markets.
